Our history
Uptons of Sussex is a family business run by Richard Upton, the grandson of the original founder John William Upton. John began cabinet making in 1899, and in 1919 he established J.W.Upton House Furnishers in Haywards Heath. Over the next hundred years his skills were passed down via his children to Richard, who is now regularly joined in his work by his own sons.
Our business today
Richard's workshop in Hankham is a hive of activity. He is a highly skilled craftsman with over 25 years of experience in creating beautiful, timeless furniture. His reputation has allowed him to work on countless unique and challenging projects, from an entirely curve walled Oast House office, to Narnia wardrobes opening into secret rooms.
Richard’s passion is for heirloom freestanding furniture, lovingly handmade in his Sussex workshop.
